Transport Options

You are checking on the weather, the season, the political situation of the country.  How about the mode of travel?  Had you consider how you want to reach the destination?  By air?  By sea? By train? By coach?

No matter what your mode of travel will be, the price, the length of journey, reliability and comfort should be included in your consideration.  The one you pick should best fit your budget, iternary and hardship threshold.

The idea of flying is the most common mode of travel.  But you would need to know your flight type.  That is to say, you would need to know whether you are going for a direct flight or you may require connecting flight before you can reach your destination.  Do check out the schedule of the flight, especially the connecting flight, so that you can plan your trip where you can reach the destination within your designated time.  For me, I would prefer early flight so that I can have more time to reach my destination or if the flight is delayed, I will not  being stranded overnight.  You can just visit any travel agent to discuss on any travel deals that is the most beneficial to you.

Cruising had evolved as one of the most popular and accessible forms of travel.  If you consider travelling by cruise, there is a few options of posh ships sailing on the sea offering plush stateroom and fancy food.  However, do be mindful they charge top-dollar as most of the ships like small cities, complete with shopping arcades, numerous restaurants, spas and health clubs, swimming pools, snazzy casinos and nightclubs.  If travel by cruising can reach your destination, you might want to consider this mode of travel as part of the segment of your journey.

Travelling by train can be one of the relaxing way of travel.  Not only you can sit back and enjoy the scenery, you can enjoy the relaxing pace without enduring the long check-in procedure like airport.  And there is also a greater chance for you to make new friends during your trip.

By way of coach is also another travel option you can consider.  This is the cheapest way of travelling but can be the most exhausting way to travel.  If the ride is more than three or four hours, there is usually a quick stop for you so that you can dart in a convenience store to buy food or use their bathroom.

Additional Planning Tips on Destination

So you had picked the destination? You are going to plan your itinerary and booked the hotel.  You are eager to set off.  But wait a moment.  Before planning your itinerary, had you made enough research on the place?  There are few things to consider, like the weather of the place, whether it’s the peak or off-peak season, the political situation at the time of the visit and whether there is any major events going on.

When going for a trip, you would need to know the weather of the place.  Like for example, if the destination you travel is during winter season, you might need to prepare winter clothing.  If the destination you travel is during summer, you might need to prepare things accordance to the weather.  Or you might to avoid places where there might be storm season or monsoon season.

Other than the weather of the place, you would also need to consider the peak season and be aware of the international holidays.  The hotel rates and the airline tickets may also be higher during the peak season.  Don’t forgetting during holidays, the locals might also be visiting the place and there might be crowd at that place.  So for those who do not like crowd, you might want to avoid travelling in peak season or during holidays.

You would need to be aware of the political situation for the place that you would be visiting.  You might not want to visit the place where there are elections campaigns for fear that something might happen during the election.

Major events may happen and coincide your visit accordingly.  Some of these events, like Olympics, national festivals etc, may excite you that you would not want to miss it.  Or you want to have an understanding of the events and want to experience, gain a broader knowledge and make your trip more eventful.

Picking the Destination

Thinking about travelling again? Where do you want to go?  Where is your next stop?

Have you ever had that feeling that you want to travel but had no idea where to go?

So what you do?  Start checking with your friends and tag along with them even though you do not want to visit that place?

For me, the place that I wanted to go should be somewhere I had a strong feeling about.  The so-called “signs” that inspire me to spend good amount of time exploring the place there.

These “signs” can be from a television program about the country that you happen to watch it, a book/magazine that you happen to pick up in a book store and flick through, a word of mouth from your friend whom they had visited it recently.

As long as you don’t feel pressurized, all these can be an indicator to you.  Just go with your intuition and you will enjoy the process in planning out your next stop.
